Evidence Framework
The 5C framework converts operational data into actionable insight and a common evidence structure for decision-making — for operators, boards, funders and relevant compliance processes.
Framework Overview
The 5C framework is FutureTherma's structured evidence model — designed to translate continuous operational data into a common structure that operators, boards, funders and auditors can work with.
Structured evidence can support operational assurance, retrofit evaluation, funder reporting and relevant compliance processes.
First C
Thermal comfort is the primary lived outcome of any thermal system — and the most direct measure of whether an intervention is working for occupants. FutureTherma's comfort evidence layer captures room-level thermal stability, including air temperature consistency, Mean Radiant Temperature, and the frequency and duration of comfort threshold variance.
Second C
Energy consumption is where thermal performance inefficiency becomes measurable. Systems operating outside expected parameters consume more energy than necessary. The consumption evidence layer tracks operational energy use against expected baselines, surfacing inefficiency drift before it compounds.
Third C
Cost performance sits at the intersection of consumption efficiency and operational management. The cost evidence layer provides structured visibility into the operational cost performance of thermal systems — supporting conversations with boards and funders about cost efficiency.
Fourth C
Operational carbon performance is a measure of whether a decarbonisation programme is delivering its intended outcomes in practice. The carbon evidence layer provides continuous visibility into operational emissions performance — not design-stage assumptions, but measured, time-series operational data.
Fifth C
Compliance is the aggregating dimension — where Comfort, Consumption, Cost and Carbon evidence converge into a structured record that can support conversations with regulators, funders and boards.
Structured evidence can support operational assurance, retrofit evaluation, funder reporting and relevant compliance processes. FutureTherma does not guarantee compliance with legislation or standards, and does not replace statutory assessment, professional judgement or regulatory processes.
Extending The Framework
5C answers: how is the building performing — Comfort, Consumption, Cost, Carbon, Compliance.
IEQ & EOO answers: what environmental conditions are occupants actually experiencing, and what can be evidenced about the resulting occupant outcomes.
